Excitement Surrounds 2018 PepsiCo Showdown Girls Seeds Announcement

By Jon Woo

It’s that time of the year in Chicago when high school and college soccer coaches from all over Illinois and the Midwest are looking to see who is ranked where in the popular PepsiCo Showdown, which kicks off its 16th year in 2018.

According to PepsiCo Showdown managing director Joe Trost, the 2018 brackets, seeds and Opening Day matchups will be a part of a special reveal throughout the week leading up to Opening Day on Saturday, April 7 at Olympic Park in Schaumburg.

“This year, we had looked at hosting a TV seeding show and had things moving forward,” Trost said. “But with so many different spring breaks for our participating high schools, we decided to do something else because we didn’t want some schools to miss out.

“At the end of the day, the goal is to put the players, the schools, their communities and the sport in the biggest spotlight possible. It will be pretty cool this week.”

On Wednesday night, Trost will join Jarrett Payton and Josh Frydman LIVE at 6:45 p.m. on Sports Feed at WGN studios to announce the seeds for the 2018 PepsiCo Showdown Girls. On Thursday morning, 100s of PepsiCo Showdown players will be LIVE on the WGN Morning News. At that time is when the full brackets will be released in the 7 a.m. hour.

In the meantime, Trost did share the Opening Day game times for the upcoming weekend, along with which teams were the home and away squads. He also noted that Downers Grove North, Metea Valley and St. Charles North were the top three seeds in the massive showcase, which will feature more than 2,500 high school girls players at the same site on back-to-back Saturdays.
