THIRD OF 11 PREVIEWS

Preview III: Herscher vs. Streamwood, 10:30: This is year No. 12 for Herscher coach Chris Longtin, who led the program to a 19-5-1 record last season. Fourth-year Streamwood coach Kristen Duffy is coming off a 3-15 campaign.

Herscher names to remember: Seniors Mattie Brown (forward), Olivia Schultz (defender) and Chloe Walsh (forward); and freshmen Ally Meyer (forward) and Rouke Zigrossi (goalie).

Streamwood names to remember: Seniors Paulette Carranza (forward), Melanie Ramirez (midfielder), Brianna Yi (midfielder) and Josette Perez (midfielder) and junior Alex Meza (midfielder).

Herscher speaks: “We have 10 returning seniors and 9 starters,” Longtin said. “We have depth on our bench, but we’re young in goal. This is the most talented overall team I have ever coached. We are strong at every position on the field. Olivia grids at it every day. She plays hard in games, in practice and gives nothing less than 100 percent. As a freshman, she could have been a starting goalkeeper but a junior had that job. So she flipped the switch in her field play and is now one of the top defenders in the area and still plays goal for her club team. She’s a great overall player.”

Streamwood speaks: “We have a very young team,” Duffy said. “We have eight freshmen on our team, therefore it has been a building and learning year.”

Did you know? This is the 25th year for girls soccer at Herscher.
